In a church setting, a deacon's role primarily involves serving and assisting the pastor, focusing on practical, logistical and often pastoral needs within the church community.  They act as a bridge between the church leadership and the congregation, ensuring that the church's physical, emotional, and sometimes spiritual needs are met, which allows the pastor to focus on their spiritual leadership roles.
